The University of Catania is the manager of seven Regional Natural Reserves: Complesso Immacolatelle e Micio Conti (S. Gregorio di Catania, Catania), Isola Lachea e Faraglioni dei Ciclopi (Acitrezza, Catania), Grotta Monello (Syracuse), Grotta Palombara (Melilli, Syracuse), Complesso Speleologico Villasmundo S.
Alfio (Melilli, Syracuse), Isola Bella (Taormina, Messina), and Vallone Piano della Corte (Agira, Enna). The University of Catania, together with civil society, leads numerous actions to promote the use of renewable energy sources and spread good practices for reducing waste production and respecting nature.
The ‘Green Week’ is a way to achieve positive results in these goals. During this time, the following activities will take place:
- Walking tours in the natural reserves managed by the University of Catania.
- Information days regarding the use of renewable materials.
- Educational paths in the university’s museums to promote sustainability through the use of ecological construction materials in restorations.
