Dr John Bell is the ”Healthy Planet” Director in the Directorate-General for Research and Innovation of the European Commission, leading the European Green Deal research and innovation transitions on Climate Change, Oceans, Polar research, Seas, Water, Bioeconomy, Food Systems, Environment, Biodiversity, Earth Intelligence, Circular Economy and Bio-based systems.
This includes €10billion Horizon Europe investments and co-chairing the Governing Board of the €2billion Circular Bio-based Europe Joint Undertaking. He has led the deployment of the EU Bioeconomy Strategy and is the Deputy Mission Manager of the Mission “Restore our Ocean and Waters”.
His commitment to international R&I cooperation ranges from the All-Atlantic Ocean Research and Innovation Alliance, Partnership for Research and Innovation in the Mediterranean Area and AU-EU Partnership on Food and Nutrition Security and Sustainable Agriculture.
